Football betting - how it is done right

Some of the Basics on Football Betting

Football betting is one of the sports betting activities that people can indulge in when they wish to win some money while enjoying their favorite sport. Betting on football is easy enough but understanding how to bet and what kinds of bets you can make when trying football betting is another thing altogether. Here are a few things you might want to know about before trying football betting.

Different Types of Football Betting Wagers

There are a number of ways you can try football betting. Here are some of the more known ones.

▪ Pointspreads and Straight Wagers. When it comes to football betting, This kind of wager is probably the simplest and the most popular of all types of football betting types. People who bet can choose either a team or a total, which is easily translated as a “side.” When it comes to betting on a team, winning often depends on the pointspreads. Pointspreads are basically the guidelines for bettors to follow when making bets. An example would be like this:

OddsMaker $800 135% VISIT >>
BetUS up to $2000 50% VISIT >>
Intertops $500 75% VISIT >>

Team 1 -3, Team 2 +3

Here's how this is translated. If team 1 is the team you wager on, they will need to win the game by 4 or even more points. If the team you bet on is the second team, they should not lose the game by more than the number beside their name. This means that the team with the negative number beside it is the favorite and the one with the positive number beside it is the underdog. If the favorite gets to win the game by exactly three points, the bet is returned to the bettor since this is called a push or a tie.

▪ Totals Wagers. This kind of wager is also called overs/unders and is another one of the simpler football betting types. Basically, you are betting on whether the total score of both teams on this game will go over or under the predicted score that is posted. If the posted score is 44, you can bet over or under this. If the total score of the game is over 44 and you bet over, you win. If you bet under and the total score is under 44, you win. Should the score hit 44, the game is declared a draw or a tie and all bets are refunded. The total points that is counted for this kind of bet include all overtime points as well.

▪ Moneyline Wagers. Another of the more popular football betting types, moneyline wagers do not take the pointspread into account but rather, oddsmakers give each team a price or odds and bettors get to win amounts according to these prices. An example of a moneyline wager would be like this:

Team 1 -250, Team 2 +220

If you bet on team 1 and they win the game, your $250 will win you $100. If you bet on team 2 and they win the game, your football betting effort of $100 will win you $220. You can only win moneyline wagers if the team you bet on wins the game.
